Box Score - Georgetown 5, La Salle 0 | Box Score - Georgetown 5, La Salle 1
Washington, D.C. - Freshman Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) delivered a two-run homer and freshman Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) allowed just five hits in two games en route to a doubleheader sweep over La Salle in Philadelphia today. The Hoyas won the first game, 5-0, and the second, 5-1 to improve to 10-35 on the year. The Explorers drop to 12-17. This was the first doubleheader sweep of the season for the Hoyas.
In the first game, Georgetown put runners on first and second in the third inning. An errant play by La Salle second baseman Alicia De La Rosa allowed freshman Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) to reach first and loaded the bases with Peters on deck. Three-straight singles from Peters, freshman Olivia Newhouse (Weston, Conn./Green Farms Academy) and freshman Suria Bahadue (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace) would score four runs for the Hoyas giving them the 4-0 edge.
With Newhouse on first in the fifth inning, senior Cathy Richter (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) hit a RBI double to bring home Newhouse, scoring the fifth and final Hoya run.
Connell pitched a complete game and allowed just two hits.
The second game saw the Hoyas pull ahead in the first inning, 2-0, on a Peters home run that brought home freshman Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter).
With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Newhouse delivered a RBI single to bring home Cipriano. Then, a two-run double off the bat of Richter scored Newhouse and Peters for the fourth and fifth runs, respectively.
Connell pitched another complete game and allowed one run on three hits.
The Hoyas return to action on Sunday, April 22 when they travel to Fairfield, Conn. for a doubleheader against the Fairfield University Stags. The doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
