Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's swimming and diving team ranked second among Division I Academic All-American squads with an overall team grade point average of 3.500. The women ranked 51st among Division I institutions with a 3.270 GPA. This is the 28th-consecutive semester the Georgetown University swimming and diving program has received CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) All-Academic accolades.
"This team keeps pushing the bar higher and higher when it comes to hard work sacrifice and dedication in the classroom," Head Coach Steven Cartwright said. "They consistently demonstrate that success in the classroom cultivates success in the pool. Each member of this team deserves to be very proud of this honor, and I am ecstatic for them."
A team must maintain at least a 2.80 GPA on a 4.0 scale to receive CSCAA Division I Academic All-America honors. Both the men's and women's squad received Superior accolades, with that distinction going to teams with a 3.25 GPA or better.
The swimming and diving team opens the 2007-08 season on October 5 when they compete at the Potomac Relays at the Reeves Aquatic Center on American University's campus in Washington, D.C.
