Washington, DC - Georgetown University sophomore forward Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton [Ill.]) posted 14 points on 5-9 shooting but fifth-ranked Rutgers tripped up the Hoya women's basketball team, 57-47 on Tuesday night. Georgetown fell to 10-6, 0-3 in BIG EAST action.

The Hoya starting backcourt of Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) and Brina Pollack (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) finished with identical lines of seven points and three assists.

Scarlet Knight senior Essence Carson compiled 18 points, 13 in the first half and posted 10 rebounds for RU, who won its ninth straight game. Rutgers' senior Matee Ajavon and sophomore Myia McCurdy each added 11 points for Rutgers (14-2, 4-0 BE). RU made 22-30 free throws for the game while the Blue and Gray knocked down 12-18 from the charity stripe.

Rutgers had a 31-18 lead at intermission. Carson connected on 5-6 field goals in the first half. Rutgers shot 37 percent in the opening period but grabbed seven offensive rebounds and had 10 second chance points before halftime.

Georgetown had two of their three starting post players, Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) and Aminata Diop (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Ameth Fall), whistled for two fouls before halftime. Marlow, the Hoyas leading scorer, saw just six minutes of action.

The Hoyas held RU to just one field goal over the final 7:32 and clawed to within 50-43 with 1:40 to go. A 7-0 Georgetown run was built from two baskets from Butler and a three-pointer from senior Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick).

Rutgers' Heather Zurich ended the scoreless streak on a putback at the 1:06 mark and the Scarlet Knights connected on 5-6 free throws in the final minute.

Georgetown hosts No. 17 Notre Dame inside McDonough Arena on Saturday, January 19 at 2 p.m.
