WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team will open its season on Friday, October 3 when they travel across town to American University to participate in the Potomac Relays. The meet will include host American as well as George Mason, George Washington, Howard, Mary Washington and Navy.
This marks the eighth consecutive year the Hoyas have started their season at the Potomac Relays. Last year the Hoyas enjoyed success, as the GU men took second with the women finishing in fourth place.
"It's a great way to kick off the season and build camaraderie for all the D.C. schools," Georgetown head coach Steven Cartwright said. "Most of us begin our dual meet seasons either next weekend or the weekend after so it will be a good opportunity for our freshmen to get out and race."
Cartwright has seen steady improvement from his team since taking over following the 2007 season. The Hoyas broke 12 school-records during the BIG EAST Championships a year ago and lost just four to graduation.
"We've been training hard for four weeks we're faster than I thought we'd be at this point," Cartwright said.
