Washington, D.C.- - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will play host to the Hampton University Lady Pirates Tuesday evening at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently unbeaten on the season sitting at 3-0 while the Lady Pirates enter the game looking for their first win of the year with a 0-3 record. Georgetown is hoping to avenge an early-season loss from last year when Hampton edged GU 52-50 in Virginia.
Georgetown's 3-0 record is the program's best start since the 2003-04 season and the top mark under Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. That year, GU started the season 4-0 and finished 13-15. The Hoyas have shown that the work on the recruiting trail may pay off with two freshmen in the starting lineup and newcomer Tia Magee (Jenks, Okla./Jenks) leading the squad in scoring averaging 12.3 ppg. Georgetown has also seen strong performances from redshirt senior Krystle Hatton (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood East) who led the team with a career high 12 points at Jacksonville State to open the season.
Hampton is a senior-laden squad that has forced turnovers by all three opponents so far this season. The Lady Pirates are averaging 24.7 opponent turnovers per game. Last season, the squad won five of its last six games to finish 18-13 and went 10-6 in the MEAC.
Williams-Flournoy is no stranger to Hampton, Va. The coach grew up in the area and attended Phoebus High School.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Gametracker and a live webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
