The No. 19-ranked Georgetown University men's basketball team will take on the No. 17-ranked Memphis Tigers at the Verizon Center on Saturday afternoon. The game is slated to tip off at 2 p.m.
The game will be televised on CBS with Jim Nantz handling the play-by-play and Clark Kellog providing the color. The game can be heard locally on ESPN 980, with Rich Chvotkin calling the action.
Georgetown is coming off a 100-38 win over Savannah State at Verizon Center on Monday. All 11 of the Hoyas contributed to the 100-point total, with five players in double figures. Senior guard Jessie Sapp (New York, N.Y./National Christian Academy [Md.]), junior DaJuan Summers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and sophomore guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) scored 14 points apiece to lead the Hoyas.
The Hoyas enter the game with a 6-1 overall record. The team has won four-straight games at Verizon Center, extending its home court win streak to 25 games, including 12 consecutive against non-league opponents.
Freshman center Greg Monroe (New Orleans, La./Helen Cox) added 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots, while freshman guard Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.
This is the ninth meeting between Georgetown and Memphis. The Hoyas have won six of the previous eight meetings. Memphis beat Georgetown last season, 85-71, at FedExForum. Freeman led the Hoyas off the bench, scoring a team-high 14 points, while Summers had 13 points and six rebounds.
Summers leads the team in scoring with 13.7 points per game, is grabbing 3.9 rebounds per game and shooting 58.5 percent from the floor. Monroe, the reigning BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, is second on the team with 13.3 points and leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game. Monroe is seventh in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, connecting on 63.5 percent of his field goals. He is also fourth in the league with 2.4 blocks per game.
Freeman, who was named to the Old Spice Classic All-Tournament team earlier this season, is third on the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game. He is second on the team in rebounds with 4.6 rebounds and is shooting 55.4 percent from the floor.
Wright is fourth on the team in scoring with 12.1 points per game and leads the team with 3.9 assists per game. He connected on a career-high eight field goals in the win over American and tied his personal best with three three-pointers. Sapp, meanwhile, is averaging 10.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.
