Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will face the Appalachian State Mountaineers Sunday in a non-conference matchup at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are 9-2 on the season and have seen success at home with a 5-0 record. The contest will be the final home game before the start of BIG EAST play on January 3 versus Syracuse.
The Mountaineers enter the game 1-8 and 0-3 in the Southern Conference under first-year Head Coach Darcie Vincent. ASU's lone win of the season came against Alabama A&M in a 65-52 victory. The Mountaineers are led by sophomore guard Frances Hernandez who is averaging over 10 ppg.
Georgetown is 9-2 which marks the best start under Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy in her five-season tenure. The squad is young, but balanced with seven different players serving as the top scorer for the team so far this season. The Hoyas have seen success from a number of different players including many reserves. On the year, the Georgetown bench is averaging 31.1 ppg while allowing only 17.8 ppg from opposing substitutes.
