Hoyas to Meet Lady Wolfpack in Final Non-Conference Showdown

Dec. 30, 2008

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will travel to Raleigh, N.C., Wednesday for a New Year's Eve matchup with the North Carolina State Lady Wolfpack. The game marks GU's final test before starting conference play on Saturday with a contest against Syracuse at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are 10-2 on the season while the Lady Wolfpack is sitting at 7-6.

Georgetown has won its last three games and is looking strong after a win over Appalachian State on Sunday. The Hoyas have shown a balanced attack all season with seven different players leading the team in scoring in just 12 total games. Georgetown's feisty defense has also been a big part of the team's success. The Hoyas are currently ranked sixth in the BIG EAST in steals (10.2 steals/g) and is fifth in field goal percentage defense allowing teams to hit just 34 percent from the floor.

The Lady Wolfpack is 7-6 on the season facing a myriad of competition. N.C. State defeated Jacksonville State on Monday, a squad the Hoyas opened the season with in a decisive victory. The Lady Wolfpack also fell to BIG EAST-rival Seton Hall, 71-65. Senior guard Shayla Fields is leading N.C. State averaging 18.5 ppg. The Lady Wolfpack may be without Head Coach Kay Yow who has missed the squad's past two games because of fatigue due to her long battle with cancer.

This is the first meeting between the two squads, but the 26th between GU and an ACC opponent.

Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., live stats and a broadcast will be available on the N.C. State athletic website.
