Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will continue its tough week with a Friday night showdown against the James Madison University Dukes (3-2) at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are in the midst of a three-game stretch over a span of five days and currently sit at 6-1 on the season. Friday marks GU's last home game until December 19.
The Hoyas defeated Fordham on Wednesday and will travel to Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday to finish up before the student-athletes break for finals. GU is currently averaging 69.7 ppg as a team which is more than seven points above what the Hoyas averaged last season. Georgetown has also allowed an average of just 54.0 ppg to its opponents showing what solid pressure the Hoya defense has been able to place on opponents.
The Hoyas are 2-1 against the Dukes. JMU holds the distinction as the only team that GU has ever played in both the preseason National Invitational Tournament and the WNIT in one season, 2000-01. Georgetown opened and closed the season with the Dukes winning the first meeting but dropping the second, 78-74.
JMU will bring in a team similar to Georgetown's with an offense that can put up a lot of points and a solid defense. The Dukes boast on of the top scorers in the country with Dawn Evans who is ranked number one in the nation averaging 30.8 ppg.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Gametracker and a live webcast of the game will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
