WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's tennis team fell to University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) on Wednesday, as the Retrievers took two of the three doubles matches and the top four singles matches to defeat the Hoyas, 5-2 at the McDonough Tennis Complex.
After dropping the first two doubles matches, freshman Maxi Thiels (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and junior Courtney Olsen (Englewood, Colo./Colorado Academy) defeated Barbara Couto and Joy Adewumi, 8-6, though the Hoyas surrendered the team doubles point.
Freshman Elizabeth Sullivan (Potomac, Md./National Cathedral School) earned a victory in the No. 5 doubles match, defeating Emily Mannix in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Alex Sebia also picked up a win, defeating Gabriela Furdyna, 6-0, 6-3 in the sixth singles match.
GU returns to the court on Friday, March 28 when they take on cross-town rival George Washington University at McDonough Tennis Complex.
