HAMDEN, Conn. - The Georgetown University softball team (18-31) fell victim to a Emily Bellush's walk-off RBI double in the eighth inning to lose game one, 2-1, then fell 5-1 in the second game against Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon.
The Hoyas took an early advantage in game one, as senior Brittany Sonnichsen (Madison, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) scored on sophomore Jadiq Garcia's (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) RBI single, giving the Hoyas a 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats tied the score an inning later when Brianna Sloane doubled to drive in Kim Le Bol to tie the score at one run.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Bellush doubled and pinch-runner Heather Maffeo scored from first base to give the Bobcats the victory.
Sophomore Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) led the way offensively for the Hoyas in game one with her second consecutive three hit game, but the Hoyas would end up stranding 11 runners in the loss.
Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss, allowing just two runs on eight hits over 7.1 innings.
In game two, Quinnipiac used a three-run third inning to put GU away early. Christie Boudreau led the way offensively in the second game with with two hits and two RBI's.
The Hoyas managed just three hits in the second game, as they struggled against Kristen Sheriff.
Freshman Melissa Conners took the loss for Georgetown, allowing five runs on ten hits over 6.0 innings.
