Hoyas Travel to Maryland on Wednesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (13-13) will make the short trip to College Park, Maryland to face the University of Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday evening in a nonconference matchup at the Maryland Softball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Last weekend, GU swept the Seton Hall University Pirates, marking the program's first three-game conference sweep since the 2014 season.
  • The Hoyas won 2-1 on Friday, followed by a big six-inning 8-0 win on Saturday.
  • GU capped off the impressive weekend with a 4-1 victory on Sunday.
  • For their efforts against The Hall, both Devyn Johnson and Marina Egbert earned BIG EAST Weekly awards on Monday.
  • Johnson was named the Freshman of the Week as she tallied a team-high five RBI with two home runs and a pair of runs scored against Seton Hall.
  • The rookie excelled in the second game of the series, launching a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
  • Egbert earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors, boasting a 0.00 ERA in two appearances, owning a 1-0 record with a save over 8.0 innings of work.
  • The graduate student threw a complete game in Friday's win, striking out one while allowing just three hits.
  • She currently leads the conference in saves with six and ranks second in the league with a 2.77 ERA. 
  • Brooke Rebhan leads the team at the plate batting .344, , owning a team-best 32 hits and 17 RBIs.
  • Daynara Campos is batting .339 to go along with a squad-high eight home runs as well as 17 RBIs. Her 28 career home runs place her third on GU's all-time list and just two away from breaking the record.
  • Marina Egbert has a 2.77 ERA in the circle with 21 strikeouts on the year, while Catherine Larson has a 3.36 ERA with 51 strikeouts.
  • Emily Collins rounds it out with 46 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched with a 3.44 ERA.
  • In the field, the Hoyas are leading the conference in double plays per game with 0.62, and rank sixth in the nation.
ABOUT THE TERPS
  • Maryland (13-23) went 0-3 against Penn State in University Park last weekend.
  • Caitlyn Cornwell and Sammi Woods led the team with a .500 batting average. Woods recorded her first home run of the season in game two against the Nittany Lions.
  • Caroline Fox and Mariah Penta each recorded three hits on the weekend. Penta picked up two doubles against Penn State and leads Maryland with 10 doubles.
  • Head Coach Lauren Karn is in her third season at the helm of the program.

  • Georgetown is 1-8 all-time against the Terps and 0-6 on the road.
  • The last meeting was GU's lone win, a 5-4 victory at home in 2016.
