Washington, D.C. - Georgetown Heavyweight Men's Head Coach Tony Johnson announced next season's incoming class of newcomers this morning. The Class of 2012 consists of 13 rowers from various places within the United States.
Peter Bourneuf is from Boston, Mass., and rows for Belmont Hill's storied program. Undefeated in his senior year, he earned gold at the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championships and helped Belmont Hill to a sweep and team points championship.
Lucas Cantor rows for Haverford School in Pennsylvania. As a senior, he earned silver at the Stotesbury Cup in the men's first varsity four.
Greg Charte is from Sea Bright, N.J., and is a single-sculler rowing out of Navesink River Rowing Club. Raw but highly motivated, Charte has great potential.
Nico Dodd is from Washington, D.C., and rows for Gonzaga College High School, where he strokes the varsity eight. An All-Met honorable mention as a senior, Dodd stroked Gonzaga to a God Cup victory in his senior year and gold in the inaugural WMIRA championships.
Carly Heitlinger is from Tampa, Fla., and coxes for H.B. Plant High School. As a novice she coxed Plant to silver at the Southeast Championships, the first medal for the men's program on the state/regional level.
Cameron Hoerner is from Manheim Township, Penn. Captain of Manheim Township's swim team and undefeated in his senior year as well as a two year varsity starter in volleyball, he will be bringing lots of height and athleticism to the team.
Kitty Lichtenstein is from Grosse Point, Mich. A Michigan state champion, Kitty coxes the Detroit Boat Club varsity eight and will bring vast coxing experience to the team.
Matt Matyjek rows at Chaminade High School on Long Island. A New York state champion and a New Jersey state champion, he earned a silver medal at the Stotesbury Cup in his senior year and gold at Scholastic Nationals.
Conor McKinnon rows for Phillips Academy Andover in Andover, Mass. He was 20-1 in his senior season and finished his high school career by winning gold at the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championships.
Andy Olsen rows at Winter Park High School in Florida, where he sits bow seat in the third-in-the-nation men's varsity heavyweight eight. A two-time state champion, he earned silver at the Stotesbury Cup in both his junior and senior years, and silver and gold at Scholastic Nationals in his junior and senior years respectively. Last year he traveled to England with the Winter Park team to compete at the Henley Royal Regatta.
Mike Romano rows at Fairfield Prep in Fairfield, Conn., where he sat six seat in the varsity eight. He also stroked the varsity four to silver at Northeast Regionals, garnering an invitation to the USRowing Youth National Championships.
Nick Shaker is from Seattle, Wash., where he coxes for Lakeside School. Team captain, he coxed Lakeside to bronze at Northwest Regionals in his senior year and, in his junior year, a second-in-the-nation finish at the USRowing Youth National Championships.
Charles Sullivan is from Rye, N.Y., and rows at Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn. He will bring tremendous height and experience to the team next year.
