Aug. 6, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University Athletics Director Bernard Muir today named Shawn Hendi as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Hoyas 29-sport intercollegiate program.

Hendi comes to the Hilltop with 10 years of professional experience at the college and high school level, including six years as an assistant at the University of Maryland.

"I'm really excited to join the Georgetown staff," Hendi said. "I have grown very familiar with the tradition and history not only of the athletic department, but the University."

A native of Mount Airy, Md., he joins the Georgetown staff after serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Maryland since August 2005, the second of two stints with the Terrapins. Hendi was directly responsible for injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation and care of 13 teams, including men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's swimming & diving, women's water polo, men's and women's outdoor track & field, men's and women's cross country, baseball, men's soccer and men's lacrosse.

During his time in College Park, he also served as the staff moderator for the Varsity Teamhouse Athletic Training Room, which houses 14 NCAA Division I teams that compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Hendi was also responsible for the daily operations of that facility, including the scheduling and supervision of two full-time staff certified athletic trainers and three certified interns.

Prior to joining Maryland, Hendi served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Loyola Blakefield School in Towson, Md. There, he was directly responsible for injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation and care of 52 middle school, freshman, junior varsity and varsity athletic teams participating in the Maryland Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) "A" Conference.

Hendi spent three seasons at Maryland (October 2000 - August 2003), working primarily with the men's soccer, men's lacrosse and baseball teams, as well as the cross country and track & field teams.

Before his first stint at Maryland, Hendi was an assistant athletic trainer at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J. for two years.

A 1997 graduate of The George Washington University, Hendi earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science. He went on to earn a master's degree in health and human performance from Austin Peay State University in 1998.
