Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team regained their scoring touch in a 3-0 win from North Kehoe Field this afternoon. Freshmen Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) and Samantha Baker (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson) scored either side of a tally from Toni Marie Hudson (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) in the second half and the GU defense recorded their third consecutive shutout.
The Hoyas had a number of chances in the first half, including a diving header from Michaela Buonomo (Churchville, Pa/Council Rock) and a point-blank attempt from sophomore Amy Speck (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), that were turned aside by the Towson defense. It seemed that the offensive misfortunes that plagued the team in a draw with Hartford were still present, however, the second half told a different story.
Shortly after halftime a cross from Hudson was knocked down in the box and the ball came free to Trujillo. The forward pounced on her opportunity and left no doubt in the minds of the Hoya faithful, knocking it home for a 1-0 lead. It was Trujillo's second goal of the season.
The Georgetown defense managed to deal with Towson's attacking during the second half and earned their third-consecutive shutout. Goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) made five saves for her 10th career shutout and received support from Buonomo, Norah Swanson (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley), Laura Snyder (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Alex Gargano (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's).
In the final 10 minutes, the Blue & Gray tacked on two more goals for the final result. Durkee lobbed a cross in from the right side that was played down by Speck. The sophomore dished it off to Hudson, who lobbed it over Towson goalkeeper Kendie Bauer for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Shortly after that, Stephanie Zare (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and Hudson linked up and the end result was a ball that Bauer couldn't handle. In the ensuing scramble, Baker cashed in on her fourth goal of 2008, and a 3-0 GU lead.
Georgetown's next game will be their BIG EAST opener as they travel to Villanova for a 4 p.m. contest next Friday, September 19.
