Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team lost this afternoon to UConn on Senior Day at McCarthy Pool. The women were defeated 164-127 and the men fell 163-122. On the day, the team won 10 events and four student-athletes qualified for events at the BIG EAST Championships.
Senior Michael McWilliams (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga High) won the one meter dive with a score of 252.38 and qualified for BIG EAST, then was victorious in the three meter dive with a score of 263.63. Counterpart Caitlin Karniski (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) won the one meter and three meter dive on the women's side with scores of 243.45 and 246.23.
Both the men and women also won relay events this afternoon. The women's quartet of juniors Laura Stark (Martinsville, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy), Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga), sophomore Mallory Kiplinger (Darien, Conn./Darien) and freshman Kelly Donlin (Harrison, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart) won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:42.63. Sophomore Bryce Hillman (Hamilton, N.J./The Peddie School), junior James LiVolsi (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), and seniors Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) and Daniel Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) won the event on the men's side, tapping the wall with a time of 3;19.99.
Kiplinger, Stark and Vickroy were also successful in individual action. Kiplinger won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.83, Stark took the 200 IM in 2:14.87 and Vickroy qualified for BIG EAST in the 200 backstroke by finishing fourth with a time of 2:13.32.
The two remaining qualifiers of the event were sophomores Keenan Timko (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) of the men's team and Megan Harvey (Norristown, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) for the women. Timko made the standard for the 100 breaststroke, finishing second in 1:01.66, while Harvey hit the mark with a win in the 100 freestyle (54.92). Freshman Victor Lopez-Cantera (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) closed things out with a win the 200 individual medley (2:00.86).
