Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team was defeated this afternoon by Maryland, 7-0. Junior David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) was the only Hoya to win a set, but fell to Andy Orban at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Ned Samuelson (Belmont, Mass./Milton Academy), Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton), Michael Clarke (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Saddlebrook Prep), Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) were all defeated in straight sets during singles action. Clarke and Mieszko Tomczyk (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hunter College H.S.) fell 8-3 in doubles play, as did the duo of Bruhn and Gross. Samuelson and Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Pauls's (N.H.)) fell 8-4 at the third doubles position.
Next weekend the team takes the court in Hew Haven, Conn., against host Yale, South Carolina-Upstate and Stony Brook.
