Georgetown Men's Lacrosse Announces Fall Schedule

Oct. 1, 2009

WASHINGTON - The nationally-ranked Georgetown men's lacrosse team will play in one fall tournament this season. The Hoyas began workouts for the 2009-10 academic year in September.

The Hoyas will play in a six-team tournament on Saturday, Oct. 10 hosted by the United States Naval Academy. Game one for each participating team will begin at noon, with the second game for each team beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Georgetown will play a pair of former ECAC rivals in the tournament, first playing Penn State and then playing Hobart. The Hoyas will play the Nittany Lions at noon on Farragut Field and then face-off against the Statesmen at 2:30 p.m.

The Blue and Gray have had some great games against Penn State, including a pair of one-goal wins for the Nittany Lions in the last two years. The Hoyas have won 10 times in 15 meetings between the teams. In Hobart, Georgetown Head Coach Dave Urick leads Georgetown against the school he coached for 10 years and won 10-straight Division III titles.

Other games include host Navy against Syracuse at noon on Rip Miller Field and Harvard against Hobart at noon on the Farragut Field turf. The second session of 2:30 p.m. games include Harvard and Syracuse playing on the Farragut Field turf and Navy playing Penn State at Rip Miller Field.

Georgetown finished the 2009 season with a 7-7 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the ECAC. This was the final year for the Hoyas in the ECAC as the program will join the newly-formed BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Conference in 2009-10 season.

The Hoyas will welcome back several key players from last year's team, including senior Scott Kocis (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), who was selected to the All-ECAC First Team last year. Kocis was one of three midfielders selected to the All-ECAC First Team. Kocis, who missed nearly all of the 2008 season with an injury, came back in 2009 and finished tied for second on the team in scoring with 29 points. He was third on the team with 21 goals scored and second on the team with eight assists.

During the latter part of the season, Kocis shined for the Hoyas, tallying eight goals and three assists in the final three games. He was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week on April 20 after scoring three goals and one assist in Georgetown's 13-10 win over then No. 12-ranked UMass. He scored three goals in a 15-7 win over Rutgers on April 25 and was named to the league's Honor Roll the following week. Kocis, who was selected as a preseason nominee for the Tewaaraton Trophy recognizing the top player in Division I, has scored 28 goals and has nine assists for 37 points in 31 career games.

Two other Georgetown players - senior Barney Ehrmann (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and junior Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) - were named to the All-ECAC Second Team last year.

Ehrmann earns All-ECAC honors for the second time in his career, as he was named to the first team in 2008. The 6-6, 220-pound defenseman led the team with 61 ground balls and was ranked 30th in the country in that category, averaging 4.36 per game. Dowd led the Hoyas in scoring with 32 points, scoring 10 goals and handing out 22 assists. He led the team in assists and it was the second-straight year he recorded at least 20. Dowd's 1.57 per-game assist average ranked second in the ECAC and was No. 17 nationally. In 41 career games, he has scored 41 goals and has 53 assists for 94 points. Dowd's 53 assists are 11th all-time at Georgetown, while his 94 career points rank 20th all-time.

The 2010 season will mark the first year of play for Georgetown in the newly-formed BIG EAST Conference.
