Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team had a very successful three days at the Navy Gold Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland this past weekend. Rafael Notario won a Singles Flight Championship and the duos of Charlie Caris / David Tillem and Tim Walsh / Will Lowell won Doubles Flight Championships.
George Washington
GU won three out of the four doubles matches with three wins (Bryan Miller/Andrew Bruhn, Anthony Tan/Michael Clarke and Caris/Tillem). In singles play, Miller won his first set at the No. 3 singles flight, 6-2, only to lose the second set, 3-6. However, the junior continued to fight and won the match with a 6-1 score in the third and final set. Caris won his match, 6-4, 7-6(3) and Lowell also triumphed 6-2, 6-2.

Georgetown again took three doubles matches, this time from the Terrapins as the duos of Miller/Bruhn, Caris/Tillem and Walsh/Lowell all earned victories for the Blue & Gray. In singles play, Notario cruised to an easy victory while Tillem and Caris both fought back from losing the second sets of their matches to register victories. Tillem defeated Graham Knowlton 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 and Caris topped Ian Mansfield 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Navy
For the third time in as many days, the Hoyas won three of their four doubles matches. Tan/Clarke won 8-3, Caris/Tillem earned a tough 9-7 victory and Walsh/Lowell rolled 8-1. In singles action, four Hoyas picked up wins. Caris won a fairly easy match 6-3, 6-2 while Clarke had it a little tougher but still managed a 7-6(6), 6-4 win. Tillem won the first set 6-2 against Navy's Zach Nicholson but dropped the second set 3-6. The senior dug deep however and won the match with a 6-4 victory in the final set. To cap the day Miller dropped his first set 2-6 but rallied back to win the match with wins in the next two sets 6-1 and 6-3.
