WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Softball Head Coach Pat Conlan has announced the Hoyas 2010 schedule of 53 games, including 14 home games to be played at Guy Mason Field on Wisconsin Avenue in Washington D.C. This season marks the fifth in program history and its second season of play in the BIG EAST Conference. GU opens on Saturday, February 20 when they play Rider and Elon at the Elon Phoenix Tournament in Elon, N.C.
Georgetown will take part in five tournaments prior to the beginning of conference play including the Elon Tournament (Feb. 20-21), the Frost Classic at University of Tennessee Chattanooga (Feb. 26-28), the Wolfpack Challenge at N.C. State (March 5-7), The Bayer Cropscience Classic at Fresno State (March 12-14) and the Spring Classic at UMBC (March 19-21).
Out-of-conference Georgetown will host Rhode Island (March 25) for the first time in program history. They will also renew rivalries with Towson (March 30) and James Madison (April 21) at Guy Mason Field. The Hoyas will travel to George Mason (March 31), UMBC (April 6), George Washington (April 20) and Longwood (April 25).
The Hoyas will play against eight BIG EAST opponents in 2010, as the conference has restructured its scheduling format to have three-game weekend series'. GU will host Syracuse (April 1-3), Pittsburgh (April 10-11), Rutgers (April 28) and South Florida (May 8-9). It will be the first trip for each of those schools to Guy Mason Field. Georgetown will open its BIG EAST schedule on the road at UConn (March 27-28) and travel to play Notre Dame (April 14), Seton Hall (April 17-18) and DePaul (May 1-2).
The 2010 season will be the senior year for members of the first recruiting class in Georgetown softball history. Suria Bahadue, Demetria Cipriano, Jennifer Connell, Jadig Garcia and Samantha Peters will conclude careers that have seen the program build from its infancy to its second season of play in the BIG EAST Conference.
