Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team put four players in double figures and maintained its perfect record at home with a resounding 82-41 win over Southwest Baptist on Tuesday night from McDonough Arena.
The Hoyas jumped out to a 20-2 lead behind seven points from Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy) of the Holy Cross) and eight points from Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton). McNutt went on to finish with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and six steals while Butler had 17 points on a game-high eight field goals and eight rebounds.
"I'm pleased with the balanced scoring from our team tonight," said Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. "Four players in double figures and nine players in the scoring column are something you like to see on the stat sheet."
At the intermission, GU led 44-16 after forcing 20 Southwest Baptist turnovers and shooting 51.5 percent from the floor.
"We forced 28 turnovers so that's something we can be proud of," Flournoy said. "On the other hand, we committed 19 and were really sloppy with the basketball tonight. That's something we're going to work in the next few days at practice."
The Hoyas extended the lead in the second half en route to the easy victory as Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) scored nine points in the stanza, finishing with a game-high 16 points. That total was two short of her career-high which she set last season against Hampton. The sophomore finished 5-of-6 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Ta'Shauna ''Sugar'' Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) reached double figures again maintaining her streak of consecutive games with at least 10 or more points. The freshman tallied 13 points and dished out a season-high six assists for the Blue & Gray. Freshman Vanessa Moore (Hackettstown, N.J./Pope John XXIII) chipped in with two buckets, tying her season-high of four points.
The Hoyas hit the road for a contest on Saturday afternoon against Richmond. Tip-off is slated for noon and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
