Hoyas to Face Providence on MASN this Saturday

Feb. 13, 2009

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will travel to Providence, R.I., this Saturday to face the Providence College Friars in a BIG EAST matchup. The game will be available live on ESPN360.com and BIG EAST TV as well as locally on tape delay at 11 p.m. on MASN. Georgetown is currently 14-10 on the season and 4-7 in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas defeated Cincinnati at McDonough Arena earlier in the week.

Georgetown's victory over Cincinnati snapped a four-game skid by the Hoyas during one of the toughest stretches of the season. GU is in ninth place in the league standings, however, only one win separates the bottom nine squads.

The Hoyas are almost at full strength with the return of leading scorers Karee Houlette (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs) and Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton). Houlette is averaging 10.2 ppg and has connected on a team-high 44 three's so far this season. Butler is averaging 11.8 ppg in conference and is GU's second-leading rebounder with 4.9 rpg.

Providence enters the game 9-14 overall and 3-7 in the BIG EAST. The Friars fell to West Virginia, 59-50, in their most recent contest. PC is led by senior guard Chelsea Marandola who is averaging 11.2 ppg. Providence is the only other BIG EAST squad besides the Hoyas without a scorer in the conference's top 30.

The game will be televised locally on tape delay on MASN. It is scheduled to air later that evening at 11 p.m. Fans looking to watch the game live can see it via BIG EAST TV at www.BIGEAST.org or through ESPN360.com.

Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m., at Alumni Hall.
