Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team (1-7) was defeated this afternoon by the 22nd-ranked UNC Tar Heels, 7-0
The Hoyas struggled in doubles play, winning only four games. Michael Clarke (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Saddlebrook Prep) and David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) were defeated by the eleventh-ranked Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman. Andrew Crone and Zach Hunter clinched the team point for UNC shortly afterwards, beating Georgetown's Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton).
With the score at 1-0, UNC extended its lead in singles play. Clarke and Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Pauls's (N.H.) came close to winning their first sets, but both were turned away, 7-5. Wong won a team-high eight games in singles play for the Hoyas.
Georgetown will host Brown at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Yates Field House.
