Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team dropped their second consecutive game in the BIG EAST - Big Ten Challenge this afternoon, 12-4 to Indiana. Junior Chip Malt (Boston, Mass./Buckingham Browne & Nichols) and senior Tommy Lee (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) had multi-hit games for the Hoyas and Lee also knocked in two runs on the day.
Trailing 8-0, the Hoyas got on the board in the fifth when senior Greg Pustizzi (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) was plunked and Malt followed with a single. With two outs, freshman Rand Ravnaas (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints Episcopal) walked and Lee hit a run-scoring single through the right side.
GU would add runs in the next two innings. In the sixth, the first home run of the season for sophomore Erick Fernandez (Hialeah, Fla./Hialeah) was a solo shot. During the seventh, Ravnaas reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a passed ball. He scored on a double down the leftfield line by Lee to give the Hoyas their third run. The ensuing batter was sophomore Dan Godefroi (Andover, Mass./Andover), who hit a grounder that was misplayed by IU's second baseman and allowed Lee to score on the play.
Junior Alex Meyer (Pompton Plains, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) allowed seven earned runs in four innings of work. Sophomore Tommy Isaacs (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Bolles) and junior Billy Concannon (Dallas, Texas/St. Mark's School) would allow three earned runs over the next five innings in relief.
Georgetown closes out their stay in Florida tomorrow morning when they play Iowa at 10 a.m.
