Box Score
Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team lost this morning to Iowa, 4-2, in the final game of the BIG EAST - Big Ten Challenge. Senior Tommy Lee (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Georgetown initiated the run scoring this morning as Lee singled to right center and stole second to start the game. After a strikeout, Lee stole third and Erick Fernandez (Hialeah, Fla./Hialeah) drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Iowa tried to get a force out on a grounder by Sean Lamont (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) but was unable to do so. This loaded the bases and a wild pitch allowed Lee to come home with the game's first run.
Despite taking the early 1-0 lead, the Hoya offense stalled for the next seven innings and Iowa scored four runs of their own to take a three-run lead into the ninth. Again, Lee started the inning with a single and Dan Godefroi (Andover, Mass./Andover) was able to then punch one through the right side to put Hoyas on first and third. Fernandez was able to deliver with a shot up the middle to score Lee and cut the lead to 4-2. However, the next three Hoya batters struck out to end the threat.
Tim Adleman (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) (0-1) earned the start for the Hoyas and allowed four earned runs over six innings while striking out four batters. Freshman Will Harris (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) entered the game and threw two innings of scoreless relief in his first action as a Hoya.
Lee finished the game with three hits while Fernandez, Godefroi, Dan Capeless (Centerville, Mass./Boston College H.S.) and Rand Ravnaas (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints Episcopal) had two apiece for the Hoyas.
The Hoyas return to the field on Wednesday at 3 p.m. when they travel to Norfolk St.
