Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Villanova University Wildcats Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena on the Hoyas' Senior Day. Georgetown is 17-10 overall and 7-7 in BIG EAST play going into the final two games of the season. GU is currently tied for eighth in the conference as all of the squads are jockeying for seeding in the BIG EAST Tournament.
The Hoyas are on a four-game win streak, most recently defeating Syracuse in New York in the closing seconds of the game. For her efforts against the Orange and earlier in the week in an overtime win over West Virginia, Shanice Fuller (Chespeake, Va./Indian River) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday. This was her first career selection and the second for the Hoyas this season. Fuller is GU's third leading scorer averaging 8.3 ppg.
Villanova is coming off of a 74-47 loss to No.1 Connecticut earlier in the week. The Wildcats are 17-11 overall and 9-5 in BIG EAST play. VU is led by senior Laura Kurz who is averaging 18.3 ppg and 7.1 rpg. Kurz transferred to Villanova after one season at Duke University.
Georgetown is 16-31 all-time against the Wildcats with the last win coming in 2007 at McDonough Arena. GU started the series with an 0-14 losing streak but came back during the late eighties and early nineties to win 9 of 11 games played. In recent years the squads have traded victories. Last season, GU fell at The Pavilion, 57-51. Kieraah Marlow had 15 points to lead the Hoyas and Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) had 12 along with seven rebounds. Georgetown led at the half, 26-25, but couldn't hold on for the victory.
