Okay Hoya fans, take a deep breath……
…and repeat...
…and repeat again.
After what seems to have been a very long road trip, we can thank our lucky stars the Hoyas are back in action Tuesday evening at the Verizon Center. From receiving various “panic” emails, messages on Facebook, and holding conversations with alumni, everyone needs to take a deep breath and realize how important our support of the Hoyas is as we root them back to victory, starting with the Scarlet Knights.
Clearly, the BIG EAST is such a dominant conference where many of the teams seem to have the appropriate, experienced talent peaking at this point in the season. It does not matter if opponents are ranked or not, there are NO easy wins this year. Do not be discouraged by the recent Hoya losses; remember, Georgetown has some key victories against impressive teams that could still allow them to a spot in the NCAA tournament. However, finishing strong this last portion of league play will help their chances come March and also grant them an extremely important bye in the BIG EAST tournament.
Rutgers enters the game with their first conference win against DePaul, snapping a 9 game losing streak. Rutgers’ Rosario is the BIG EAST’s top freshman scorer averaging 17.5 ppg. The Hoyas, who are coming off a 5 game skid, have been competitive in each of those loses; however, were unable closeout games against more experienced teams. In my opinion, since the Connecticut game, Monroe has been extremely quiet on the court. Teams have defended him well and the way Georgetown has won games early this season was by dishing the ball to Monroe in the high post/top of the key area and Monroe becoming the main playmaker. Georgetown needs set up Monroe in more viable positions to allow him to do what he does best, distribute the ball.
As my mom always told me, “it’s not over, til it’s over.” There is a lot of basketball left in this grueling season. It is important that as fans we take the good with the bad and continue to support the Hoyas as they look to move past this losing streak and claim another Georgetown victory!
