Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team closed out its regular season on Saturday against Maryland at the Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium in College Park, Md. Three Hoyas recorded top-10 times in their respective events, a freshman record time was set in the 200 individual medley, the team won 12 events and 19 BIG EAST qualifying times were met.
The best event of the day for the Blue & Gray was the 100 freestyle as David Heckler (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), Bryce Hillman (Hamilton, N.J./The Peddie School), Brad Crist (Shawnee Mission, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) and Wes Going (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High) all qualified for BIG EAST's. Heckler also hit the mark in the 100 backstroke and the 50 freestyle while Crist earned a GU top-10 time in the 200 breaststroke.
The other top-10 times were garnered by Trevor Kosmo (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos) in the 100 butterfly and Kyle Chow (Scarsdale, N.Y./Fordham Prep) in the 200 backstroke. Kosmo also recorded a BE qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke. Chris Finnegan (Garden City, N.J./Garden City) set a freshman record in the 200 individual medley later in the day.
On the women's side, Emma Porteus (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) attained BE status in two events, the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Kathryn Berg (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) also qualified in the 200 breaststroke and Mary McGuire (Port Chester, N.Y./Sacred Heart) hit the mark in the 200 butterfly.
The team also won a handful of events as Suzanne Waller (Darien, Conn./Darien) captured the 200 backstroke, Katie Bolander (New York, N.Y.) won the 500 freestyle, Megan Harvey (Norristown, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) won the 100 butterfly and the quartet of Lindsay Vickroy (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga), Kristen Pratt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo), Harvey and Mallory Kiplinger (Darien, Conn./Darien) brought home the win in the 800 freestyle relay.
Three more Hoyas reached BE standards on the day from the men's team; Ray Zomerfeld (Coral Gables, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) in the 200 freestyle, Keenan Timko (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke and Brian Koh (Rowland Heights, Calif./Damien) in the 400 individual medley. Meanwhile, Michael McWilliams (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga High) secured wins in the one meter and three meter dive, Goran Bistric (Saugus, Calif./William S. Hart) won the 200 backstroke and the team of Heckler, Bistric, Tom Crecelius (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) and Finnegan captured the 800 freestyle relay.
