March 10, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team hits the road for the first of two games away from home this week, visiting Delaware on Wednesday, March 11. Face-off at Fred P. Rullo Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

The Hoyas enter Wednesday night's game with a 1-2 overall record following an 8-5 loss at home to No. 2 Syracuse this past Saturday. Georgetown is no stranger to the road, as the Blue and Gray are playing five of their first six games this season away from home.

The matchup with Delaware will be the eighth all-time meeting between the schools. Georgetown leads the head-to-head series, 7-0, including an 18-10 win last season at the Multi-Sport Field. Hoya juniors Rickey Mirabito (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) and Andrew Brancaccio (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored three goals apiece in that win.

This season, Mirabito leads the team in scoring with a team-best nine points, registering eight goals and one assist. Junior classmate Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) is second on the team with three goals and a team-high five assists for eight points, while junior Scott Kocis (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) has four goals and three assists for seven points. Brancaccio is fourth on the team with five goals and one assist for six points, while sophomore Ryan Shuler (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) is fifth on the team with three goals and one assist for four points.

Junior goalie Jack Davis (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) has made 30 saves and carries a 9.34 goals-against average.

Junior Barney Ehrmann (Baltimore, Md./Gilman), who has helped to lead a defensive unit that has allowed 10 goals or fewer in three games this season, leads the team with 13 ground balls, while senior middie Chris Taylor (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) has eight ground balls and senior Stevie Bauer (Red Bank, N.J./Peddie School) has six.

Senior Dan Vinson (Pleasant Valley, Calif./De La Salle) has been strong at the face-off for the Hoyas, winning 62.1 percent of his attempts (18-of-29).

Delaware enters the game with a 2-3 record, posting wins over Hartford (11-9) and Saint Joseph's (13-2). Curtis Dickson leads the team in scoring with 14 goals and two assists for 16 points, while Pat Lombard has 10 goals and one assist for 11 points.
