Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's tennis squad lost to the University of Delaware Blue Hens, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at the McDonough Tennis Complex. The Hoyas managed to pick up a pair of victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles play, but it wasn't enough as GU fell in its second home dual match of the spring.
Michael Clarke (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.) defeated Andre Vorobyov at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-4 to start things out for the Hoyas. Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Pauls's (N.H.) then added a point by winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
Unfortunately, the two victories wouldn't be enough as GU fell in the other singles matches and dropped all three in doubles play.
Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) had a heartbreaking loss at No. 4 singles falling 7-6, 7-5, 6-7, 7-4, 10-8 in a marathon battle. Also forcing three sets was David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) at No. 1 (6-3, 7-6, 7-0) and Kevin Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) at No. 6 (4-6, 6-4, 6-3).
In doubles play, the pairs of Gross/Bruhn and Walsh/Tomczyk both fell 8-4 to allow the Blue Hens to pick up the point.
The Hoyas will travel to St. John's on Friday for their first BIG EAST dual match of the season. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
