Georgetown Softball Falls to South Florida, 6-1

March 22, 2009

Box Score

Tampa, Fla. - The Georgetown University softball team (5-16) fell behind South Florida early, as the Bulls scored three runs in the first inning and were never able to recover, falling 6-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned on eight hits over 6.0 innings. Mackesey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) and McKinley Cooper (McLean, Va./Langley) each had two hits for Georgetown in a losing effort.

The Bulls jumped in front early, as Janine Richardson's two-run triple gave USF a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Richardson later crossed the plate herself to take a 3-0 advantage. South Florida took advantage of a Georgetown error in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead, then would score two more in the fifth inning, as Cat Olnick hit a two-run home run for their fifth and sixth run of the game.

Georgetown would avoid a shutout, in the top of the seventh inning as Carter led off with a double to center field. Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) came on to pinch run and scored on Cooper's single through the left side of the infield. It would be all the offense the Hoyas would manage, as they fell 6-1.
