Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team lost the rubber match of a three-game series with Louisville this afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium, 16-6. Senior Sean Baumann had a big day at the dish for the Hoyas, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI's.
Baumann started his day by leading off the second inning with a solo home run, his first of the season, to tie the game, 1-1.
The Hoyas battled back from a 2-1 deficit in the third inning to take their only lead of the game. Sophomore Sean Lamont led off with a double and after Dan Capeless grounded out, Baumann singled to right field and tied the game. Tom Elliott followed with a single to right and Baumann moved over to third base before Kelly Muir brought him home with a groundout.
After falling behind 3-2, U of L fought back, highlighted by a five-run fourth inning. Catcher Jeff Arnold was 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBI's, while third baseman Chris Dominguez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and three RBI's. The 2009 Sporting News Preseason National Player of the Year raised his batting average to an even .400 and brought his RBI total to 31 through 20 games.
Trailing 9-3 in the sixth, Georgetown put together their best offensive inning. Dan Godefroi started with a pinch-hit walk, Tommy Lee singled to right and Andy Lentz beat out a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Erick Fernandez, hitting a team-high .388, knocked a two-run double to left and a wild pitch cut the Cardinals lead to 9-6. However, the next three batters were retired in order to end the comeback.
GU pitchers struggled as six different players took the mound and all but one of them allowed an earned run during their time.
The Hoyas will play Tuesday afternoon against George Washington at Barcroft Park (Field No. 4) in Arlington, Va.
