Box Score
Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team got an early home run from Sean Lamont (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) and led the No. 11 Virginia Cavaliers in the fifth inning, but could not hold the lead and dropped a 9-3 contest in Charlottesville, Va., on Wednesday evening.
Trailing 1-0, Andy Lentz (Farmington Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) started the fourth with a single to left-center and after an out, Sean Baumann (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) knocked a base-hit to right. Lamont then smashed his 11th homer of the year, tying him for second in the conference. The three-run shot, his first dinger since April 5 against WVU, gave the Hoyas a two-run lead.
Freshman Jared Cohen (Phoenixville, Pa./The Haverford School) pitched well and only allowed one run over the first four innings, but ran into trouble when he allowed three runs in the fifth and relinquished the Hoya lead. Sophomore reliever Pablo Vinent (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) threw a scoreless 1 1/3 innings to close the game.
Senior Tommy Lee (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) started the game with a single to right, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Lee's hit and the three hits in the Hoya fourth were the only hits of the night for GU.
Virginia's Will Roberts got the win after throwing the first five innings and three relievers no-hit the Hoyas over the final four frames. Centerfielder Jarrett Parker and infielder Corey Hunt each went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and leftfielder Phil Gosselin led UVA with three RBI's.
The Hoyas hit the road this weekend for a three-game conference series at Seton Hall. The teams start their set on Friday at 6 p.m. from South Orange, N.J.
