Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team scored three goals in each half for a resounding 6-0 victory over Bryant University on the first day of the D.C. Invitational this afternoon at American University. Five different Hoyas scored and the defense made it five-consecutive regular season games without allowing a goal.
Despite a 30-minute delay due to inclement weather, the Hoyas scored twice in the first 1:22 to set the tone. Caitlin Durkee (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) scored the first goal of the game just 36 seconds into the contest off assists from Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) and Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central). Less than a minute later, Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) slotted a pass to Jordan on the left side and the crafty veteran took it the remainder of the way, beating the Bryant goalkeeper to the left side.
Wells, Jordan, Durkee, Trujillo, Michaela Buonomo (Churchville, Pa/Council Rock) and Norah Swanson (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) all had chances in the first half to extend the lead before Samantha Baker ((Long Beach, Calif./Wilson) ) capitalized on a long pass from Durkee for the Hoyas' third goal of the afternoon.
In the second half, GU kept taking advantage of the long pass as Wells found Trujillo on a clean breakaway for a 4-0 lead. Three minutes later, a long throw-in by Baker was headed backwards by Catherine Cabot (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) to Trujillo. The sophomore pounced on the ball and scored her second goal of the game. Baker's assist pushed her into the top 10 all-time at Georgetown in just her second season. Cabot's assist was the first point of her young GU career.
The final goal of the day was set-up by a Bryant foul. Georgetown had a dangerous free-kick opportunity and Wells did the rest. The red-shirt sophomore cleared the wall with her shot and placed it perfectly right below the bar and over the outstretched hand of the Bulldog goalkeeper. It was Wells' first collegiate goal since 2007.
Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) made three saves on five shot attempts by Bryant to record her 18th shutout in a Hoya uniform. On the day, Georgetown out-shot Bryant 26-5 and accumulated 10 corner-kick opportunities. Every Hoya field player saw action on a day GU had their best offensive game since last year's 7-0 win over UMBC in the D.C. Invitational.
The Hoyas will play Georgia Southern on Sunday at noon in the final day of competition at the D.C. Invitational from American University.
