Kicking It: The Georgetown Women's Soccer Blog

Aug. 31, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Hi everyone! It has been almost a month since we've been back on the Hilltop, yet it seems unbelievable that we are already three games into the regular season. We have had a great preseason and a strong start, with a 3-0 record as of Sunday.

We have such an amazing group of girls this year; a lot of talent, a lot of personality, and a lot of fun!

Surviving preseason becomes a lot easier when you have a team like this to get through it with. Whether it was sing-alongs on the way back from practice, shooting each other at laser tag, or literally pushing teammates across the line to pass fitness tests, we got through preseason "with a little help from our friends" (to be cliché).

Last weekend, we won our first game of the season, and our first home game, against American. We then went on to win on Friday against Bryant, which is in Rhode Island, but only after delay due to lightning in the area. We warmed up in the pouring rain and thunder, only to have them send us off the field, soaking wet, to wait for the lightning to stop. We took the field again after a 15-minute warm-up, still soaking wet, and played with heavy jerseys and puddles in our shoes to beat Bryant 6-0.

Sunday was a completely different day, weather-wise. It was absolutely gorgeous out (maybe a bit hot) as we took the field against Georgia Southern. This was definitely a better team than we experienced on Friday, but we went on to beat them, 3-0.

It is definitely a great feeling to come out of the first three games undefeated, but now it is time to get ready for James Madison this Wednesday. With a day off Monday, and only one practice on Tuesday before the game, this is really going to be a test of our team's talent and ability to step up and be ready to play. We hope you can all come out and support us against JMU and this Sunday against Santa Clara and we'd like to thank the brave fans that came over and cheered for us this weekend at AU. Thanks!
