Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown women's soccer team hosts Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off for the contest at North Kehoe Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
GU received a late first-half goal from senior Toni Marie Hudson (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) and another shutout from their defense to post a 1-0 win over local rival George Washington on Wednesday. The goal was the first of the season for Hudson after she led the squad last season with 10 tallies.
The Georgetown defense has blanked five of their six opponents this season and goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) earned her fourth shutout of the season in five starts and tied former Hoya Jade Higgins' (2004-07) career shutout record of 20 clean sheets.
Georgetown holds a 4-0 all-time record against Robert Morris and has outscored them 26-0 in those contests. However, the last meeting between these two teams was in 1997.
Currently, the Hoyas lead the BIG EAST in a number of offensive categories including goals, assists, points, shots and corner-kicks. Redshirt sophomore Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) currently leads the BIG EAST in assists and is tied for second in shots and points. Teammate Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) is tied with Wells in point scored and is tied for the league lead in goals.
Michaela Buonomo (Churchville, Pa/Council Rock) is one of only three players in the conference to have two or more game-winning goals on her resume this season. She scored the game-winner in the season opener against American and a non-conference match with Georgia Southern. Trujillo, Buonomo and DesJardin have all received a BIG EAST Weekly Award this season.
Robert Morris
With 17 letter winners returning to the lineup, Robert Morris brings back one of the more experienced conference units. Sophomore Jess Sharik will be counted on to create in the midfield after finishing third in the conference in assists. Junior Kathleen Caggiano played a vital role in the midfield and at forward last season, leading the team with six goals (tied for tenth best in NEC). The defense lost captain Emily Schock and goalkeeper Caitlin Dilal. However, Dilal returns as an assistant coach and a much needed mentor for the two freshman netminders.
Senior Katie Castner scored her first collegiate goal in the 78th minute as the Colonials earned a 2-1 win over Niagara University in RMU's first home game of the 2009 season. The Colonials play at George Washington on Friday afternoon in the first of five-consecutive road games.
For a Good Cause
Starting this weekend and continuing for the rest of the regular season, the women's soccer team will be collecting donations for La Casa de mi Padre, an orphanage located in San Salvador, El Salvador at all their home games. The orphanage serves children coming out of situations of extreme poverty, violent abuse, and addiction, among other things. All donations will go directly to helping La Casa de mi Padre ensure a better future for these children as they seek to provide complete healing in four major areas; psychologically, spiritually, medically, and academically.
