Game Notes
WASHINGTON - The No. 19/18 Georgetown University women's basketball team will head out on the road this week for a Tuesday night BIG EAST matchup against the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. Additionally, on Monday Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) earned her fourth BIG EAST Rookie of the Week award after leading the Blue & Gray to a 2-0 week. Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) also earned her third honor roll award.
Rodgers averaged 19.6 ppg for the week posting a game-high 26 points against Providence and leading Georgetown with 13 in the win over Louisville. She also averaged 1.5 apg, 1.5 rpg and 1.5 steals per game on the week. Rodgers is the only player in the conference to have earned four weekly rookie awards this season. She is currently leading the BIG EAST in scoring averaging 18.6 ppg.
McNutt averaged 13.0 ppg for the week as well as 6.0 rpg and 2.5 steals per game. Against Providence she had 15 points and in the Louisville win she posted eight rebounds. McNutt was 6-for-6 from the line in two games.
The Hoyas are currently on a program-record 14-game win streak with a record of 15-2 overall and a mark of 4-0 in conference play. Tuesday will be Georgetown's third BIG EAST road game after GU defeated Syracuse and USF at their venues earlier this season.
The Hoyas have been solid on defense so far this year as the team leads the nation in both steals (15.1) and turnover margin (+10.5). GU has forced teams into turning over the ball more than 30 times on seven different occasions so far this season. After moving into the national polls last week, Georgetown has gone 2-0 with home victories against Providence and Louisville.
The Blue & Gray is led by Rodgers who is averaging 18.6 ppg on the year. McNutt is averaging 11.5 ppg and had eight rebounds in the win over Louisville. Senior Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) has been big down low with 11.0 ppg and a team-best 7.2 rpg.
Cincinnati is 8-8 overall and 1-3 in BIG EAST play. The squad's lone conference victory came against St. John's by a score of 70-60. The Bearcats are led by senior Kahla Roudebush who is averaging 12.2 ppg and is second in rebounding averaging 5.4 rpg.
Georgetown is 1-5 all-time against the Bearcats with the lone win coming last season at McDonough Arena. In the 69-61 Hoya victory, senior Karee Houlette posted a team-high 19 points while McNutt added 12. The Blue & Gray led at the break but allowed Cincinnati back into the game in the second holding on for the eight-point win. Roudebush led Cincinnati with 25 points. The Hoyas are 0-3 against the Bearcats on the road.
