Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University men's tennis improved to 2-1 on the early season with a 3-2 victory over James Madison on the final day of the VCU 4+1 Invitational in Richmond, Va.
David Tillem rolled to victory in the No. 1 singles match against Mike Smith, 6-2, 6-2. Charlie Caris fought off Tommi Nissinen in their first set, 6-4, and cruised to a 6-0 win for a straight-set victory.
The doubles point was hotly contested with the Hoya duo of Bryan Miller and Andrew Bruhn defeating Matt King and Yaroslav Voznenko, 7-5, 7-5.
Even in defeat the Hoyas kept it close and almost pulled off a sweep. However, Anthony Tan fell 7-5, 7-5 and Will Lowell lost 6-2, 5-7, 10-7. The team takes the court again next Saturday when they travel to College Park, Md. for a date with Maryland.
