Game Notes

WASHINGTON - The No. 17/15 Georgetown University women's basketball team is hosting the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently 17-3 overall and 6-1 in the BIG EAST, tied for second in the standings with West Virginia. Georgetown is having one of its best seasons in program history after posting 16-consecutive wins earlier this season.

The Hoyas have been dominant on defense leading the nation in turnover margin (9.5) and ranking second in steals per game (14.6). The Blue & Gray has forced 30 or more opponent turnovers more than eight times this year.

Georgetown is led by freshman guard Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) who is averaging 18.7 ppg to rank first in the BIG EAST. Junior captain Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) is second on the squad in scoring with 12.1 ppg and ranks fifth in the nation in free throw percentage shooting 90.7 percent at the line.

Rutgers is led by senior guard Brittany Ray who is averaging 15.9 ppg. Sophomore forward Chelsey Lee is averaging 6.7 rpg for the squad which is almost even with its opponents in rebounding margin. Most recently, the Scarlet Knights fell to UConn, 73-36.

Georgetown is 2-15 all-time against the Scarlet Knights with both wins coming on the road. Last year, the Hoyas played Rutgers close forcing two overtimes before falling 60-47. Meredith Cox led the way with 14 points hitting a big three to send the game into overtime. McNutt added 11 points while both Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) and Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) posted eight rebounds apiece. Kia Vaughn and Brittany Ray each had 16 points for Rutgers.

Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at McDonough Arena on Georgetown's campus. Live stats and a webcast featuring Drew Wiseman will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. Fans who attend the Georgetown men's game versus Duke will get in for free with a ticket stub from the game at Verizon Center.
