Georgetown Swimming Takes First Place at Potomac Relays

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team finished the Potomac Relays with a combined score of 182, finishing in first place overall against a seven team field in their first action of the fall at American University. The men's team earned 114 points to take first place, while the women's team earned 68 points, finishing behind Towson and George Mason for third place.

The Georgetown men's 200 yard medley relay team, including Greg Germain, Brad Crist, Victor Lopez-Cantera and Jens Brenninkmeyer got the Hoyas off to a fast start in the second event of the day, taking first place in a time of 1:36.88.

They followed that up with a victory in the men's 800 yard freestyle relay, as Chris Finnegan, Ray Zomerfeld, Christian Kilgore and Paul Quincy finished in 7:14.67. The men would also win the 500 yard freestyle relay with a foursome of Spencer Walsh, Brenninkmeyer, Matthew Mandel and Germain in 4:14.93.

The Hoyas would capture the final race of the day, the men's 200 yard freestyle relay, as Lopez-Cantera, Crist, Mandel and Ken Ryan finished in 1:28.44 to cap a first place performance.

On the women's side Georgetown consistently earned pointns by placing in the top three in the 200 yard medley relay, the 300 yard butterfly relay, the 400 yard medley relay and the 1000 yard freestyle relay. They also earned fourth places finishes in three others. The Hoyas got second place finish out of their relay team in the 300 yard butterfly, with Megan Harvey, Colleen McLintock and Kristen Pratt.

Overall Georgetown finished in front of Towson (160), George Mason (146), George Washington (132), American (86), Mary Washington (72) and Howard (14).

Georgetown will travel to University of Delaware to compete next Saturday, October 9 with the Blue Hens and BIG EAST Conference foe Seton Hall, beginning at 1 p.m.
