WASHINGTON - Junior midfielder Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after leading the Georgetown University women's soccer team to a pair of wins over the weekend.
The Hoyas improved to 11-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the BIG EAST Conference after posting road wins over Cincinnati (3-1) and Louisville (3-1). The wins gave the Hoyas three conference road wins this season, matching the most league wins away from home under Head Coach Dave Nolan (2007, 2008).
Wells scored two goals and two assists to lead Georgetown to the wins.
Wells, selected to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List recognizing the top player in the country and the only unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team, was also selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.
In Friday's 3-1 win at Cincinnati, the Hoyas trailed 1-0 late in the first half, but Wells tapped a pass to senior Caitlin Durkee (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park), who hit a shot from 30 yards out to tie the game. Wells then scored early in the second half as the Hoyas added two second half goals in the win.
The win over Cincinnati improved Georgetown to 10-4-0 overall and marked the fourth-straight season GU has reached double figure wins, and the fifth time in the last six years, all under seventh-year Head Coach Dave Nolan.
On Sunday in Kentucky, the Hoyas took a 1-0 lead in the first half and then added two more in the second, with Wells having a hand in both scores. In the 52nd minute, the Hermann Trophy candidate knocked in a shot from 10 yards out, sending her shot to the upper corner of the goal. The lead grew to 3-0 seven minutes later when Wells sent a cross in from the left side and found junior forward Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X), who headed it in from nine yards out at 59:04.
Through 15 games, Wells leads Georgetown in scoring with seven goals and 10 assists for 24 points. Her two goals gave her 20 for her career, tying her for seventh all-time at Georgetown. She now has 34 career assists, which extends her all-time lead in that category, and her 74 career points rank second all-time, six behind Sara Jordan (C'10).
Georgetown will return to action next weekend with another pair of conference road games, starting on Friday, Oct. 15 when the Hoyas visit Pittsburgh for a 7 p.m. kickoff. On Sunday, Oct. 17, the team will visit West Virginia, with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
