Oct. 29, 2010

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad has been tabbed No. 13 in the Associated Press Preseason Poll which came out on Friday. The Hoyas posted one of the best seasons in program history last year boasting a 26-7 record and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown will open the season on November 13 at McDonough Arena against Augusta State.

Georgetown moved into the national rankings last season earning No. 24 in the AP Poll after defeating Syracuse, 83-81, in overtime and starting the year with a record of 12-2. It was the first time the Hoyas had been in the national polls since the 1992-93 campaign.

The Blue & Gray climbed as high as No. 12 in the AP Poll earning that position on February 22 after downing No. 4 Notre Dame, 76-66, in front of a sellout crowd at McDonough Arena on senior day. The Hoyas were ranked for 11-consecutive weeks last season.

Prior to the 2009-10 season, Georgetown had been ranked for only one week taking the No. 25 position in the AP Poll on March 2, 1993.

The BIG EAST had five teams in the top 25 with Connecticut tabbed as the No. 1 squad with 39 first-place votes. West Virginia earned No. 11, Notre Dame was No. 12 and St. John's took the No. 14 spot.

Georgetown will open the season with Augusta State on November 13. The Hoyas will host a local rival, the University of Maryland, on November 16 at McDonough Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and tickets for all home games are available at www.GUHoyas.com.
