WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior men's basketball player Chris Wright (Bowie, Md./St. John's Catholic) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon.
Wright helped lead the Hoyas to the championship of the Charleston Classic on Sunday with an 82-67 win over North Carolina State. It was the fifth-straight win to start the season for the Blue & Gray, who moved up to No. 16 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
Wright averaged 13.5 points and 8.0 assists in a 4-0 week for the Hoyas, including three-straight at the Charleston Classic, beating Coastal Carolina, Wofford and the Wolfpack.
The senior tri-captain capped off the weekend by taking home Most Valuable Player honors at the Charleston Classic. He scored 17 points and had seven assists in the championship game win over N.C. State.
During the tournament, Wright averaged 15.7 points and 8.0 assists while shooting 45.5 percent from the field (15-of-33) and 47.1 percent from three-point land (8-of-17). He recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 assists against Coastal Carolina, setting a single-game tournament record. Wright followed that up with 18 points in a win over Wofford and left Charleston with a tournament record 24 assists.
The Hoyas return to action on Saturday, Nov. 27, hosting UNC-Asheville at Verizon Center. Tipoff at The Phonebooth is slated for noon. The game can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
