WASHINGTON - Sophomore shooting guard Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) was named the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Rodgers was named the Paradise Jam Reef Division MVP after scoring 28 points in the championship game of the tournament.
Rodgers scored 28 points, one shy of her career high, to help lead No. 12/12 Georgetown to a 69-58 victory against No. 4/4 Tennessee, adding three steals, four rebounds and a 5-of-7 effort from 3-point range. She shot 55.8 percent, connecting on 10-of-18 from the floor. She had double-digits in a win against Georgia Tech and a loss to Missouri. She finished the week averaging 17.3 ppg.
Rodgers is leading the squad in scoring averaging 16.0 ppg, she also has a team-high 15 steals.
This marks Rodgers' first-career player of the week award and last year she was the rookie of the week five times. She was named to the honor roll last week.
