Goodwin Joins the Men's Tennis Staff

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Men's Tennis Coach Gordie Ernst announced Thursday that Michael Goodwin has joined the staff as an assistant coach. Goodwin is a local product that was a Division III NCAA Champion at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. He will assist with coaching duties and the day-to-day operations of the men's tennis program on the Hilltop.

Goodwin concluded his impressive collegiate career in 2009 by capturing the NCAA Division III Singles Championship earning the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Player of the Year award and playing a majority of the season at No. 1 singles. The Eagles won the National Indoor Championship as Goodwin earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles.

With his brother, Chris, Goodwin won the Division III portion of the Small College National Championship as the pair went 23-7 on the season, ranking seventh nationally.

Prior to his senior campaign, Goodwin was a two-time All-American and competed in three NCAA Championships. He went 23-6 his freshman year to earn the ITA Rookie of the Year award.

Goodwin is a local product from Rockville, Md., who attended Richard Montgomery High School. He finished his high school career with a record of 100-4 in singles play and was the state champion as a sophomore as well as the state runner-up his senior year. Nationally he was ranked seventh in the 14 and under group, 32nd in the 16 and under group and 35th in the 18 and under group.

Goodwin graduated from Emory in 2009 after majoring in international studies. He is a first-year at the Georgetown Law School and resides in Rockville, Md.
