As the team's name came up on the television screen in a meeting room at McDonough Arena, the Georgetown women's soccer team let out a yell as the Hoyas found out they had indeed been selected as one of 64 teams to play in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, which begins this weekend.

The Hoyas, 13-6-1 overall, will play Siena College on Friday, Nov. 12 at Ludwig Field on the campus of the University of Maryland. Georgetown is the No. 2 seed in the bracket. The winner of the Siena-Georgetown game will play the winner of a match between High Point and No. 1 seed Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 14.

The time for Georgetown's match on Friday will be announced at a later time.

"We're excited to play and we're happy to be in," Head Coach Dave Nolan said. "This is what I would feel should be our expectation every year, to be an NCAA Tournament team, and not to be the team that may just make it every three or four teams. We were a comfortable NCAA team this year.

"Last time we made it, we were probably the last team in and this year, I felt we were comfortably in. And that's good. We're hoping now we can go and do something special, which is to win the first NCAA game in program history."

This will be the second appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Hoyas, who last made it in 2007, falling to William & Mary, 2-1, in the first round.

The Hoyas finished the regular season with a 13-5-1 overall record, including a 7-3-1 mark in the BIG EAST, which helped the team earn the No. 2 seed in the National Division of the BIG EAST Tournament. Georgetown started the season off with a program-best 7-0 record and the team had two wins over NCAA Tournament teams, a road win against James Madison, and a 3-1 win over South Florida. The Hoyas closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw against No. 10 Notre Dame.

Redshirt junior midfielder Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Upper Montclair) leads the team in scoring with eight goals and 10 assists for 26 points. She was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection.

Wells is one of four players in double figures in scoring for the Hoyas, joined by First Team All-BIG EAST midfielder Kelly D'Ambrisi (Trumbull, Conn./Lauralton Hall Academy). D'Ambrisi, a junior, has scored four goals and four assists this season for 12 points.

Junior forward Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X), an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, is second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and two assists for 22 points.

Led by senior goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) and senior defender Michaela Buonomo (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock), the Hoya defense has been strong as well, ranking third in the BIG EAST in goals allowed (0.80 per game).

DesJardin, who was selected to the ESPN Academic All-District 2 First Team last week, is the school's all-time leader in shutouts with 29. DesJardin also ranks among the top-20 in the country in shutouts and save percentage. Buonomo, who has started every game of her career, has been part of a defensive unit that has recorded eight shutouts this year and last year set a Georgetown record for fewest goals allowed in a season (14).
