WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Freeman helped lead the Hoyas to an 86-69 win over then-No. 16 Memphis last Thursday as the team improved to 11-1 overall this season.
Georgetown, winners of three-straight games, is now ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 9 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches' poll.
Freeman scored 24 points to lead three players in double figures as the Hoyas used a big second half to pull away from Memphis for the team's second win on the road over a nationally-ranked team this season. He connected on 9-of-12 shots from the field to score a game-high 24 points with five rebounds and four assists.
This is the second appearance on the Weekly Honor Roll for Freeman, who was named the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year.
Freeman leads the team in scoring and is third in the BIG EAST, averaging 18.9 points per game. He is fifth in the league in field goal percentage (56.8 percent), fifth in free throw percentage (86.5 percent) and second in three-point field goal percentage (49.2 percent). Freeman is also averaging 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Georgetown opens BIG EAST Conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at Notre Dame. Tipoff in South Bend, Ind. is slated for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be shown live on ESPN2, with Jon Sciambi and Fran Fraschilla calling all of the action. Locally, fans can listen to Rich Chvotkin on ESPN 980 AM.
