No. 20/19 Georgetown Plays at Houston on Tuesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad will travel to the University of Houston for a Tuesday evening 8 p.m. ET game against the Cougars at Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, Texas. The Hoyas had a break for the holidays, but will have two games to close out 2010 hosting Clemson on Thursday.

No. 20/19 Georgetown is 10-3 on the season after defeating Missouri State at McDonough Arena on Wednesday afternoon, 73-52. Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) led the way with 22 points and a squad-high 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and second of her career, she also had a team-high seven assists. Tommacina McBride (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) added 11 points and three players each managed eight points. Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) tallied eight points, six rebounds and a career-high five steals for the Hoyas who outrebounded the Eagles, 41-33. It was Georgetown's 21st-consecutive home victory.

Rodgers leads the Hoyas with 17.8 points per game and 31 steals. She is tied with Tia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) for the lead in rebounds averaging 4.7 rebounds per game. Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) has recorded a team-high 67 assists on the season and is GU's third-leading scorer averaging 7.8 ppg behind Monica McNutt's (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross)11.5 ppg.

Houston is 8-2 this season after falling at the Duel in the Desert to the Marist Red Foxes, 78-70, last week. Brittney Scott led the team with 19 points, while Courtney Taylor grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and scored 10 points for the double-double. Prior to Marist, the Cougars had won four straight including a 92-80 win over Louisville and a victory over Nebraska.

Porsche Landry leads Houston with 17.2 points per game. Two other players average in double digits including Scott with 16.1 ppg and Taylor averaging 15.8 ppg. Taylor averages a team-high 11.7 rebounds per game. The squad has a +1.8 rebounding margin over opponents and is +4.6 in turnovers. The team is 3-0 at home.

Tuesday marks the first meeting between the squads. The last time the Hoyas played a game in the state of Texas was during the 1997-98 season. Georgetown fell to the University of Texas, 61-59.
