Washington, D.C. - Three Georgetown University divers will compete in the 2010 BIG EAST Diving Championship at Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh this weekend. Juniors Caitlin Karniski (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep), Rebecca Jenkinson (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) and sophomore Angela Pontes (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) will take part in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events on Friday and Saturday.
The preliminaries for the 1-meter dive start at 1 p.m. on Friday and are followed by the consolation finals at 6 p.m. and the finals at 7 p.m. The next day, 3-meter dive preliminaries will start at 12:15 p.m. with consolation finals starting at 6:30 p.m. and finals closing the day at 7:15 p.m.
This past weekend against Maryland, Jenkinson broke the school record in the 3-meter dive and also recorded a personal-best score in the 1-meter dive. Pontes also set personal bests in the events and both student-athletes qualified for the NCAA Zone A Championships with their performances.
Earlier this season against American, Karniski broke the school record in the 1 and 3-meter dives. Her score of 270.90 broke the 3-meter diving mark (266.03) set by Juliana Bonilla in 2001 and her score of 257.78 broke the 1-meter diving mark (255.98) set by Jessica Rettig in 2006.
The conference's swimming championships will also take place at Trees Pool, next week from Wednesday, February 17 through Saturday, March 20.
