WASHINGTON - Junior diver Caitlin Karniski (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) took 15th place in the 1-meter consolation final on Friday afternoon at the 2010 BIG EAST Diving Championship hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. Karniski was one of three Georgetown divers to participate in the meet, the trio will also compete in the 3-meter championship tomorrow.

Karniski placed 16th in the preliminaries qualifying her to compete in the consolation round. She performed six dives including a front 2 1/2 tuck somersault and a reverse 1 1/2 pike.

"Caitlin hit all of her dives in the prelims and then again in the consolation which moved her up to 15th, it was really exciting," said Diving Coach Emily Richmond.

Junior Rebecca Jenkinson (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) and sophomore Angela Pontes (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) also competed in the event. Jenkinson placed 32nd and Pontes was 33rd overall.

The 3-meter prelims will begin at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday with the consolations starting at 6:30 p.m. and the finals at 7:15 p.m. Karniski is currently the school record holder in the 3-meter with a score of 270.90.
